For the last 10 years I have had the wonderful opportunity to teach 7th grade social studies (world geography) at Batchelor Middle School. However, that has all changed over the last month as I have taken over the historic B-TV program and began teaching video production class at the same school. This blog serves as a platform to recap my journey teaching a new class and taking over a highly successful middle school media program that has been around since 1995.
The founder of the B-TV program is a man named Jeff Rudkin. He retired last year after over 30+ years of teaching at Batchelor Middle School. He started the program and the program produced over 800 national and international award winning videos. Batchelor Middle School is the middle school I attended growing up and I had the privilege of being a producer in the program during the 2005-2006 school year. He was a great teacher and taking over his classroom and program was too good of an opportunity to turn down.
Over the summer I had to work tireless to obtain a business teaching license from the state of Indiana and refresh myself on video production. I completed many IMovie and other video production software tutorials and began setting goals and initiatives for the class and program for the current school year. We just wrapped up the first grading period of the school year and I am really enjoying teaching the new class. Students are engaged with hands on projects and some have already started producing high quality videos. We are responsible for creating a weekly newscast for the school, I have linked this years newscasts below.
